FAQ

  • What are the current admission procedures?
Advanced, timed-entry admissions for visitors are encouraged. Purchase your timed-entry tickets to the Museum now. Walk-up tickets are also available. New-York Historical Members do not need to book timed-entry tickets—just show your membership card at the entry desk, and you'll be admitted whenever you arrive. Coat check is now available—please see here for guidelines.

  • What exhibitions are on view?
New-York Historical has a full slate of exhibitions, which you can view here. Permanent exhibitions like Meet the Presidents and the Oval Office, the Gallery of Tiffany Lamps, and Objects Tell Stories are also on display, and the DiMenna Children's History Museum is open.

Screenings of our short films, We Rise and New York Story, are free with Museum admission and take place in the Robert H. Smith Auditorium. We Rise screens every hour on the half hour, and New York Story screens every hour on the hour.

  • Is there food available?
Clara and Cafe 77 are temporarily closed. We'll announce plans for a reopening soon.
  • Is the NYHistory Store open?
Yes! The NYHistory Store is open whenever the Museum is and has enhanced cleaning protocols in place. You can also continue to shop at the online store.
  • Are vaccinations against COVID-19 required to enter the Museum?
Proof is not required, though vaccination is recommended.

An inherent risk of exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) exists in any public place where people are present. People visiting the New-York Historical Society do so at their own risk.

  • Do you accept volunteers at the Museum?
We do have volunteers at the Museum, although we don't currently have open slots. Among the perks for volunteers: free lectures, discounts at the NYHistory Store, and a Museum ID that gets you access to most NYC museums. Learn more here.
